Living on boats, smell of cuban cigars and travelling to learn

Who is "you"?
I’m a simple girl who grew up in a rural New England town. I have spent the last 14 years working and living on boats. My parents, brother and sister taught me the most important things in life such as being kind, giving back, working hard (not too hard though), laughing & having fun! I value spending quality time with my family and friends. Solo backpack travel really drives me along with photography and sailing. If I can incorporate skiing, biking, hiking or camping it’s a bonus. I’ve somehow been able to combine my passion and skills to create a unique work/life balance. I consider myself extremely fortunate and find joy in sharing my experiences with others so they can follow along & maybe discover new places.

Wich is the thing you love the most in your city?
I love Newport, RI because it’s a great walking city on the coast with a vibrant international yachting scene that is rich in history and culture. People from all over the world come here to sail and professionals come to compete in some of the most well known races. The beautiful Newport mansions & architecture, the wonderful culinary scene and the picturesque town itself are a big draw.

What makes you travel?
I travel to open my mind, to feel gratitude, to discover new places and to make lifelong friends. I’ve never been a great student by learning from a book - I prefer to learn from experiences.

Places you´ve been in the world?
I’ve been to over 70 countries and I think my favorite places are probably Cuba, India, South Africa, Patagonia, Iceland, Ireland, Italy . My criteria is typically cultural experience, friendly people, diverse landscape & flavorful food.

Tell us a smell, a taste, a color, or a sense you remember from a place you´ve been?
In Cuba I would say the smell of natural cigars, the taste of fresh mint in the mojitos & the sounds of live salsa music.

What is the silliest thing you ever bought in your trips?
On the island of St Barth’s I bought this cool belt with a buckle that was bottle opener - still comes in useful at party’s.

If Lisbon was a person, who does it remind you of?
Lady Gaga - huge talent & unique personality!

We hate tourism tours?
Yes, for the most part. Sometimes they work well if short on time but in general I prefer seeing a place through a local’s eyes.

Have you ever fell in love with someone when you travel?
Yes, my partner of 14 years, Louis. He’s a yacht captain and we met in the British Virgin Islands.

The most embarrassing/funny moment you had while travelling?
There are too many to tell and most I don’t think I want published ;) The first time I ever went diving I was taking a beginner course on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. I was so scared that the instructor could barely get me to stay under the water & when she finally did I kept forgetting to breath and would choke. At one point she turned to look at me & I thought she was unconscious so I punched her as hard as I could to “wake her up”. She gave me the divers “ok sign” to which I responded with a made up “I’m crazy sign"". When we surfaced she said, “what the hell was that all about” and I said “I thought you were dead??”
